Four-Candle Holder by Staffan Gellerstedt for Pukeberg, 1960s–1970s

A Scandinavian wreath-shaped candle holder by Staffan Gellerstedt for Pukeberg.
This ring-shaped composition of heavy glass is a rare form, even for Scandinavian modernism. Four candle sockets are united in a single cast base: seamless, unadorned, just pure construction. It is massive yet airy.
The form is stable, visually balanced, and feels like a complete object—not merely an accessory, but an integral element of its environment.

Pukeberg Manufacturer:
Pukeberg Glasbruk was founded in 1871 in the Swedish town of Nybro and, by the mid-20th century, became a leading exponent of Scandinavian functional glass. Unlike the more decorative Kosta Boda and Orrefors, Pukeberg operated at the intersection of design, architecture, and industrial art. In the 1960s and 1970s, the manufacturer experimented with weight, texture, and monolithic forms—creating objects closer to architectural elements than to classical glassware. Many of these are now considered prime examples of industrial minimalism and are exhibited in applied art museum collections.

Staffan Gellerstedt:
One of the pivotal glass designers in post-war Sweden, Staffan Gellerstedt collaborated with Pukeberg during their most radical formal explorations. He specialized in cast forms, substantial volumes, and working with space—often creating not merely vessels, but glass sculptures with a utilitarian function. His works are featured in museum collections across Sweden, including the Röhsska Museet and Smålands Museum.

How to use:
  • As a central composition on a dining table
  • On a coffee or console table—paired with a wreath or branches
  • With tall, slender candles—as an architectural sculpture
