A serving dish with a carved edge, festively adorned with a green insert and lilac asparagus shoots. In harmony, a hand-painted gravy boat with a wavy rim. Together, they form an almost theatrical scene of a spring dinner — one of those where boiled asparagus was served with melted butter, sparing no silver spoons or compliments for the chef.
Sets with such ornamentation were particularly popular in Europe in the second half of the 20th century — as a continuation of the tradition of “vegetable” majolica, both ironic and opulent. Today, they increasingly appear in museum selections and on the pages of gastronomic books — as an ironic legacy of bourgeois life.
This set pairs beautifully with plates with an asparagus pattern, which you can find in our collection.
