Silea Pie Dish, Ceramic

This is not just a ceramic dish — it's a true pie server, an item of French joyful design, created in the spirit of 1980s pop art. Its lid is covered with a glossy glaze and adorned with a fruit-shaped appliqué: embossed kiwi slices, cherries, and blueberries form a true decorative “pie”.

The pie dish (from English: pie dish) — a lidded dish for serving pies, quiches, and casseroles. They were popular in Europe starting in the 19th century, especially in France and England, where such tableware was part of Sunday dinners. By the end of the 20th century, their utilitarian function shifted towards a purely decorative one: such items began to be created in the ironic aesthetic of pop art — not for baking, but for smiling.

The aesthetic of “joyful interiors” of the 1980s in France responded to the desire for liberation from formalities and bourgeois clichés of the past. At its core were bright colors, playful forms, overt kitsch, and decorative expression. The Silea brand became a leader of this wave, offering serving items that were both functional and humorous.

About Silea:
a French manufacturer of serving and interior items, known in the 1970s–1980s for its witty and democratic objects.
Silea made “joyful design” accessible: metal trays with cheerful patterns, ceramic serving dishes shaped like fruits and animals, ashtrays, salad bowls — all of these filled French homes in the late 20th century.

How to use:
• Store nuts and dried fruits
• Use for serving cookies, homemade tarts, and pies

Most vintage items have been previously used. Therefore, it is virtually impossible to determine if an item has been used after purchase—even with expert examination. We ask that you consider this when placing an order: returns for vintage items are not provided.
