A French vintage set of six cutlery rests crafted from artistic pewter, bearing the hallmark Étain d’Art, Titre Légal, Made in France.
Each rest is a small sculptural scene featuring symmetrically arranged animals.
The set includes six pairs: swans, geese, pheasants, roosters, squirrels with bushy tails, and elephants with their trunks touching.
The shape is rectangular and stable. The surface has a light patina, and the details are precisely cast—feathers, fur, and body curves are clearly discernible.
The pewter is dense, with a satisfying weight in hand. These rests are a perfect example of decorativeness and practicality going hand-in-hand: they genuinely protect fabric, don't slip, and can support any cutlery—from an antique knife to modern sushi chopsticks.
What is Étain d’Art, Titre Légal:
This is a marking for artistic pewter, indicating its legitimate composition and status as a decorative item.
In 20th-century France, a strict certification system was in place, and the “Titre Légal” hallmark guaranteed a minimum of 95% pure tin, signifying the highest quality standard.
